Off-Grid Living in South Africa: One Family's Real Journey
This is a first-hand account of one KwaZulu-Natal household that has run fully off-grid since 13 June 2026, after an Eskom billing dispute led to disconnection. The first eight days of telemetry recorded 0.00 watts of grid power purchased. There was a brief interruption on the first morning after a new battery was installed, but no full days without power; the system has continued to carry the household through winter on a forested property, without a generator.
